Why should a community consider developing a Community Wildfire Protection Plan?

A community CWPP will assessing the risk of forest fire in the interface, and recommend mitigation methods to improve community safety. With this information in hand, communities can make wise planning decisions around such issues as location of new housing, appropriate building by-laws, and road access. It will also provide key information to provide to homeowners to encourage Fire Smarting their homes.

Additionally, this information will assist in determining next steps in reducing fuel loads in the urban interface.

How does the CWPP differ from an Emergency Plan?

An emergency plan is developed to deal with an emergency once it has occurred. A CWPP is a mitigation plan to deal with a hazard before it becomes a threat to the community.
