Message from the Union of BC Municipalities Executive Director Richard Taylor
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Fuel Management Information System website. The information housed here is intended to provide a better understanding of the dangers of wildland urban interface fires, and how fuel management strategies can be developed to help protect your community.
The on-line application utility is designed to simplify the application process. If you find that this process is problematic for you, we would like to remind you that our staff is always available to assist you.
UBCM will continue to work with the Ministry of Forests and Range to make the fuel management application process as seamless as possible, and we look forward to your feedback.

Message from Peter Fuglem Director - Protection Branch, Ministry of Forests Range
Welcome to the new Fuel Management Information System website. This site is intended to serve community clients, working forest professionals and public interested in fuel management and community protection.
This site provides general information, data, electronic funding applications and program contacts for Fuel Management.
The Fuel Management is relatively new to the Protection Branch, and the Ministry of Forests Range, along with its partners in the Union of BC Municipalities and First Nations Emergency Services Society are working together to provide funding and tools to support communities in reducing the threat of wildfires.
Developments such as our new forest license to cut for community protection are an integral part of moving the program forward. We continue to work cooperatively with forest professionals and agencies to develop and share knowledge and best practices for fuel management strategies in the Wildland Urban Interface. One of our current challenges is assisting communities to develop strategies to manage Mountain Pine Beetle infestations in and adjacent to their community. These dead and dying forests may pose an increased risk of wildfire.
A growing number of communities are beginning to proactively safeguard their neighborhoods from the risk of forest fires; however, there remains a significant amount of work to be done. It is only through the coordinated efforts of BC communities, fire departments, homeowners, government and industry that progress in fuel management can be achieved.
I thank everyone involved and look forward to the continued positive results.
Peter Fuglem,
Director, Protection Branch
