Operational Fuel Management Project Funding

What Funding Is Available?

Funding requests are approved on suitability of treatments and cost per hectare. In Mountain Pine Beetle stands, the program contribution will be 75% of the cost. In other areas, funding will be approved to 50% of the total cost.

Community contribution may include in-kind contributions such as staff and volunteer time and use of local government resources. Contributions by industry or other funding agencies may also be considered.

What Costs Are Eligible Under the Program?

Eligible cost means a direct cost properly and reasonably incurred by the local government in the implementation of an operational fuel treatment.

Scope of funding includes direct planning, layout and treatment costs properly and reasonably incurred and paid by the local government in order to carry out the project. In order to qualify for funding, proposed treatments must be appropriate for the ecosystem at hand, and may include the application of prescribed fire.

What Costs Are Ineligible Under the Program?

Any cost that is not directly connected to the development of the project will not be eligible for funding. For the purpose of this grant program, funding shall not apply to: Emergency plans or related activities; Community Wildfire Protection Plans; implementation of pilot projects; research; ongoing public information; local fire department training.

How are Funds Disbursed Under this Program?

The Program Officer will inform successful applicants by letter. Funding for planning and layout costs may be approved prior to program implementation. For larger scale projects, progress payments may be authorized. Final payment will be dispersed on project completion (approval of final report by UBCM and MOFR fuel management specialist) and confirmation of expenses.
